From my days in the oil patch, the rule of thumb was that 10% of the oil drilled was consumed one way or the other in the process of drilling, transporting crude to the refinery, refining and delivering the gas / diesel on to us, ye, the old suffering customer.  Translation: For every 10 gallons you buy and use, you are really paying for 11.

Will never understand people and gas. Was on the south side of Dallas Saturday, saw a Pilot station selling regular for $ 3.77. Wiped out my cash dropping about 17 gallons into the truck. What I didn't understand was less than a block away was another equally busy station, not a chain or brand listed, peddling gas at 3.88. And in Good Old Garland, 3.83 to 3.87

Here we thought our Sam's Club was the cheapest gas in our area of Lakeland at $3.86.  Today Bruce was about four miles northeast of us (and Sam's) and saw a Hess station at $3.83.

It was interesting as we drove to our daughter's last night and crossed over into different counties.  Here in Polk Co. we have gas prices around $3.89 or $3.91.  Got into Lake County by our daughter's apartment and the Hess station was $3.83.  Then we went into Orange County and the stations all had prices at $3.81.  Around Pasco Co. (where Bruce works) prices were around $3.83 also.  Maybe we should move to Pasco Co. and get gas cheaper and also be closer for Bruce to drive to work -- as long as he continues to stay here in FL and work FOREVER!!!!

Did I ever mention his motto that he always heard from his father?  "You rot out quicker than you wear out!"

Still 3.799 at Hess but I did see a 3.779 elsewhere.
My brother reports that it was 4.139 in Cambridge yesterday. 4.159 the day before.  He got gas in Bennington at 3.839 I believe.

I guess Vermont is the place to go when I need gas while I'm in Cambridge this summer.  New Jersey is a little far to go for fill-ups.
