Anyone up Cambridge way buying propane? If so, if you don't mind, what the going charge? I ask as Dad's standard price for a low volume user was $10.00 for a 100 lb tank. He never sold bulk so I have no idea what the rate would have been for it. |

We pay 1.899 for propane but that is the employee price. The comjpany that Glen works for handles propane as well as fuel oil, gas & diesel. He wasn't sure but he thought the regular price was around 2.70. We're seeing more and more homes with propane furnaces now. Daughter Jodie just replaced the oil furnace with propane and our next door neighbor put one in his new home. We have one in the small apartment that is in the back of our house, but the main house heats with oil.

Hotdog you guys. I can't believe the low price you are paying for propane. I pay $19 for a 20 lb tank for the trailer at the ranch and I think the price has gone up in the past month.

Well Bill, the tanks are a different story. I think we pay roughly the same as you for our gas grill tanks.

Gas grill tank fill-ups went from $15 last year to $17 presently in Rotterdam. |

Shows how much the world has changed since the 50's. Dad sold the business in 60. Right up to the time he sold out, if anyone came by and asked him to install a house-sized propane heater, he would do what ever it took to discourge them short of saying it was unsafe which it is not. (If I had my druthers we would have a propane stove but our house is all-eletric and we live in surburbia where propane tanks beyound the 20-pounders are not allowed.) At the time, only those with major bucks could afford propane for heat. Heck we sold propane and we couldn't afford it for heat. Natually our stove, hot water and one of of our two refirgerators were propane. (We had to have the 2 so that if someone looking to buy an appliance asked which we used, propane or electric, Dad could truthfully say both. More than one person did "drop by the farm" for a cupppa but in truth, it was to see if we really had both a gas and an electric refrig.) |

You southerners should be glad you don't live in the north. Glen told me yesterday that the price had gone up to 4.199 from 3.999 the day before and that before 9 yesterday morning the rack price had gone up another 8 cents. Wonder where it's all going to end.

Well it has never ended from the start of time, but it does seem like the gas companies all of a sudden can regulate the price any minute they want while the gas has been used from other prices, it is a big damned scam, the rich oil guys are loving it
