Thure,  Where in Idaho???  My son lives in Sandpointe, on Lake Pend Orielle (PONDERAY- I know I have the spelling wrong.  I think there used to be a Navy Sub training center on the lake.

Thure,
I love Pocatello, Idaho!  However, during the winter I would imagine it is a little like Cambridge.  By that I mean SNOW!!!
When we drive from Phoenix to Sandpoint we try to go by way of Pocatello...

There was a Navy nuclear power training prototype at Idaho National Engineering Lab which is north of Pocatello / Idaho Falls.  I don't know of any Navy base near Lake Pend Oreille / Sandpoint.

Bill - 4th of Apr 69, 26th of March '70. I was supposed to be at Long Binh but I managed to hack off some sod in personnel, I really have no clue to this day what I did but I did so he banished me to a "Class B Agent" at Bien Hoa. Felt like Bere Rabbit and Briar Patch i.e. driven off to a unit that didn't have cold showers, held no **** burning details & narry a bunk bed while the office I had been banished from on Long Binh had cold showers, **** burning details & bunk beds. Guy must have been an O-State Aggie or a Sigma Chi. At one point water was so short on Long Binh, the main office assigned an E-6 with an M-14 to stand in the shower room to enforce the shower every-other-day, get wet, turn off water, lather, then turn on the water to rinse temporary regulations. Lasted about a month. Always had visons of some poor mother getting a letter "We regret to inform yuou that your son Jeb Jr. was shot in the act of taking a shower in excess of his authorized gallonage." Shades of Beau Geste.

Did you ever meet Bill Mauldin the late cartoonist? His son was at Bien Hoa during your in-county time so naturaly Bill, being the political cartoonist for the Chicago Trib, was able to arrange a fact finding junket that inculded an extended stay at Bien Hoa. Fancy that will you.

Hi Joel, so in getting back to you.  I never did meet Bill Mauldin while at Bien Hoa and never had a warm shower while I was there.  Maybe a cold shower was good for me. I have been going thru old records and will get my travel story on line soon.

Bill - I "boast" of having hot water and we did - but the runing part was 4 times a day for about a half hour per time, fortunately pretty much on schedule so hot showers were an easy do. Of the other necessary use of running water, we did made do with trash cans (for those who weren' there, not what you think. Doing it the Army way, it just took two people per flush)
